My Worth Stamp by Mirz123 My Worth Stamp by Mirz123
I'm not trying to make a big social statement with this stamp, but I do feel it's a sentiment that's important to remember. I see so many hurt feelings because someone the person looks up to (or feels is their superior) doesn't like their work...or doesn't like them personally. I think we should look to others for support and guidance, but we should not tie-up our worth and self-esteem on what someone else thinks of us. Value opinions, but don't let them make or break you. Particularly with art, do what you love. Learn from the critiques, but don't let them destroy you.

This is a lesson I try to live by, but find myself forgetting from time to time. ;)

You can find more of my stamps in this gallery folder ---> [link]

*** :aww: As with most of my smileys, you may use this on and off dA, without my permission. The only thing I ask is that you keep the file name in tact and don't remove any credit information. If you do use it for something, it would be nice if you could comment and let me know. It encourages me to make more smileys if I know people are using/enjoying them. ***

People on this site need to stop taking negative feedback about their work — either by critique or regular comment — so damn personal. It's NOT. I don't care how intimately connected you are to your art, I don't care how much of your heart and soul were poured into that particular piece, I don't care how long or how hard you worked on it. It doesn't make that piece immune to negative feedback, it isn't unique to devote that much time and energy to a piece because EVERYBODY does, and IT ISN'T PERSONAL.

I went to Ringling School of Art and Design for college as an illustration major, and Ringling is a school that puts your butt through the wringer. The first day of freshman orientation they told us that same thing: feedback on your artwork is about the artwork, not YOU. So don't take it as a personal insult or attack if you get negative feedback on something. It's how all artists have learned since the beginning of time.

Praise doesn't do anything but stroke your ego. It's good to get praise, of course, but kids on here need to stop throwing tantrums every time something even the least bit negative is said about their stuff. It isn't jealousy, it isn't hating, and it isn't a personal attack. It just means your art isn't perfect. Nobody's is. Grow some thicker skin and learn to define your own personal worth instead of letting stupid things do it for you.

I agree. We need to know what is wrong with our work in order to fix it. And I agree, many well-meaning, respectful critiques are bashed because someone dared to say something negative about the art. ON the other hand, just trash-talking someone doesn't help either. Critique needs to be respectful, even when harsh.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Please make a separate stamp that says "Value opinions but don't let them make or break you." Words that can't be truer, Mirz!

I really appreciate the message of this stamp
Sometimes people make rude comments, which is hard to deal with
but I know I can't let it get me down
Thanks for making this! :huggle:

AHEM! I've had ever so many friends who quit art all together by one insult. :(

I know. It's so terrible how many people take that kind of thing to heart.
