Space Pirates by Mirz123 Space Pirates by Mirz123
*** Updated this to add some minor animation, to give it a little more life. Have the captain making small adjustments to the steering, plus added blinking action to all of the crew. ***

This is a dual entry for the current #EmoticonOpus with the theme of Space. Plus, an entry for *Czar-the-Dragon's contest with the theme of Pirates.

I wanted to enter both contests, but I wanted to do something a bit different, since I knew most emoticonists would cover the typical takes on these themes. Then the idea of Space Pirates teased and I just had to run with it. Of course, it was a plus that the entry would kill two birds with one stone. :eyes:

I loved the idea of a space ship that looks like a traditional pirate ship. So, I took one of my own ship designs and modified it. Did it up in chrome color. I went with a very cartoon-y take on the ship, with a big dome covering the top. Admittedly, with it being in space, the ship wouldn't need a sail, and the flag wouldn't wave in the wind. So, my thinking is that the captain is a big retro pirate fan. He fitted the ship with hard moulded replicas of those pieces to simulate ships from that period.

Just a note, I tried adding some minimal animation to the actual emotes and it really just detracted from the piece. So, this is essentially a static emote with a moving background! :giggle: Though *Ravenswd suggested I might add some movement to the steering wheel, and I think he may be right. So, I will probably come back and tweak this soon--but not ATM.

A thank you to *Ravenswd for helping me out with the space background.

This actually only took a couple of hours to do, and I'm pretty pleased with it.

Whenever I think of Space Pirates, I now think of both Metroid, and this.

I also think of the space pirates from Kid Icarus: Uprising.

I never played any Kid Icarus games, so I can't confirm that it had space pirated.

It actually does have space pirates, in the Galactic Sea.

This is AWESOME!!!
Except, because the stars are so far apart, the stars shouldn't really be moving :D

That's true. But particularly for small pixel pieces like this, you need to use some kind of illusion like that to give the sense of movement.
