First of all, this is a non-competing entry (and my other entry is, too). Someone questioned if I would be eligible to win because *Ravenswd is a judge. Even though I am 100% convinced he would never play favorites, I don't want there being any questions as to the integrity of the contest. So, I'm voluntarily not participating for a prize.
That said, when I heard the theme, I toyed around with a lot of ideas, and totally wanted to do this one. This is the Time Machine design from the movie in the 1960s with Rod Taylor. This is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi movies--it's a classic. I love the design of the machine. Now, I did have dreams of animating it, but #1 this took me forever because I tried to get as much detail as I could, and #2, honestly, I didn't feel I should kill myself making the dish move if I wasn't eligible for a prize.
That said, I am very proud of this piece. I spent an insane amount of time on the detail (this piece took me 2 weeks off and on of work). I worked off of several different picture references, but looked most at a miniature replica of the machine, as the scale was the best. You can see a compare in my scraps here ---> [link]
And the best part of this all is that when I was on Youtube looking up vids on the movie, my son saw and got interested. He asked to watch the movie. So we all did a couple weeks ago. That was a lot of fun.

It would look more interesting.
