Unwanted Gift by Mirz123 Unwanted Gift by Mirz123
I've been thinking out this emote for a while. It's an emote who gave a present to someone and that person didn't want it. So they broke it up and threw it back at them.

I've had this happen to me more times that I'd like to admit. Granted, most gifts I make/give are greatly appreciated. But it really does hurt when you spend time on something and it's not wanted or appreciated. Because of that, I've been really re-thinking my gift-giving IRL and online.

:( I'm always heart broken if I give something and the other person doesn't appreciate it. I try to make my gifts tailored to whomever I'm giving them to. Though it can be hard to really know what another person will really love. Gifting my Dad is the hardest thing. He never understood the art I made him in the past. But really, they made no sense. I gave him this shiny bone and feather thing I carved and polished and painted and spent hours crafting. He had a very puzzled look of WTH? on his face... Then another time I made this plaster organic abstract sculpture thing. Sort of experimental. He uses it as a door stop. But admittedly, it's kinda fugly. I had no clue what I was doing. Maybe my Dad just thought I was weird! hahaha.

Especially when it's someone you care about a lot. But I try to think of it from their perspective. My Dad didn't get it. Because the gift didn't match him at all. So even though I put a lot of work into it, it wasn't something tailored to him.

A lot of people actually get mad at me when I suggest stopping with the gifting, calling ME selfish for expecting (or demanding in their eyes) thankfulness. But, the reality is time. If I spend 15-20 (and sometimes a lot more) on an emote gift that is not appreciated, that is time spent that could be focused on other things. Sometimes a batch can take hours and at some point you have to look and weigh it out.

I do love gifting and there are some who really do appreciate it. I just have to focus and make a better effort to center my time and energy on those people.

I guess my point is you do it because you want to. What happens after shouldn't be of any consequence.

"You do all these?"
"Yes. Take one. A gift."
"I don't take free gifts, ah... How much do you want for it?"
"Nothing, taking your money for something is not a gift. Taking nothing for something is."

I love this movie! ;)

Well, I understand that. But it was fun for a while, but now the joy is gone. So it's not fun for me. I just think I will want to do them for friends and close supporters.

I appreciate hearing your POV.

there have been times I've worked really hard a on a gift and it hasn't been appreciated. =\

I think more of it is because of *who* gave it (me) than the gift. But I really get sick to my stomach worrying over it and I should have to feel that way when I'm trying to be nice to someone.

I know how that can be. I get that way with certain people and worry so much about their reaction.
No one should have to feel that way. Other people make them gifts and put in time and effort because they care. We should have a shin kicking army that goes around kicking these people for us.

Poor emote. =/ Some people were never raised with a sense of couth or to be thankful for what they've received, and I say 'screw them.' To me, rethinking whether or not you should be giving to others because of some ingrates may, in the end, be hurtful to you. If it were me, I'd appreciate anything and everything someone else did for me. It shows they're willing to put in time and effort, to show they care.

Well, once someone yelled at me because I was upset for wanting a thank-you for a gift. They *me* selfish because the person just took it and never said a word to me. That made me doubly sad because I was essentially selfish for taking my time and making someone else a gift. It confuses me.

If the person I'm gifting trusts in me .. they generally take it as a kind act. But if not, and especially if they are someone of a higher stature than me, my gift can be construed as a manipulation to curry favor (for popularity reasons etc.) ... so .. sometimes I do actually question my own motives when making gifts for cool people.

I for one ... have examined myself closely enough to know that there really isn't anything pure about me ... so I always feel grateful if someone chooses to read my intentions as being kind.

Well, to kinda avoid that, I gifted to everyone sideways. Up and down on popularity. So, I don't think that was perceived as a motivation. For me, I think it's a matter of personal dislike for me. Or the assumption that the gift wasn't difficult, so it's value is small.

I tend to think the best of people and assume it's kindness. I do get lots of gifts and I know that perhaps some are trying to gain favor. But if someone takes the time to make me something, even if there is an ulterior motive, I appreciate it. An effort is an effort.

And I happen to think you are a kind person. <3
