The twice-monthly article covering news, contests, and other happenings all around the deviantART Emoticon Community. We will also feature interviews, art features, and more. This zine is a collective work of many emoticonists. You can see our full staff list, as well as find additional information on emoticon community events by visiting the official zine group #Emotizine.
Note this is our first zine article, so things are still a bit experimental and we may have missed an item or two. Don't be alarmed. Be sure to follow us over the next few weeks as we broaden our features and get things settled.

New emoticonist, =happy-gurl sure has impressed the emote community with her epic pixel work and emoting skills, as well as an original emote OC. She sat down with #Emotizine for an interview. Here's an excerpt, you can find the full interview here!
I like that the emote community is so tight-knit
I would like some of the inactive emoticonists to come back
The Emoticon Community Spirit Initiative began in October 2011. The idea was to have a different emoticonist every week host an event to help get them and other members of the community more involved.
Reservations for hosting in the first half of 2012 are now being taken. If interested, please check out this page
One of the most prominent emoticon groups on dA is #Emotication. It is considered *the* resource for those wanted to start creating emoticons or expand their skills. #Emotizine sat down with founder, `Synfull, for a Q&A about the group. This is an excerpt. The full interview can be found here.
#Emotication is a resource and tutorial group for the emote community. It aims to host a wide range of links to information about anything someone might need to know about emotes – programs to use, how to animate, what contests exist etc. It’s basically a one stop hub of knowledge for new emoticonists or just people interested in the emote community.
Wow, that’s a tough one. I used to keep a running total but it’s been a while since I did major work on the group I’ve lost track. A quick count of the page suggests approx 280 tutorials, 110 base packs and 380 news article links.
Hmm, I think it would have to be the news article list. Having written a range of news articles myself and being a fan of other news series I find it a really useful resource to be able to look back through and find a link to an article written up to 3 years ago. Equally it’s a great way for emoticonists that have since left to continue to pass on their knowledge to current generations.
We asked a member of our staff to pick one of their fave recently submitted emotes and tell us what they liked about it.
