I prefer using Photoshop 7.

Aside from photography, it's the only chance my PS copy gets to be used for anything. When I'm on my laptop, I use MSPaint when I'm testing emoticon ideas and faces. Sort of like sketching.

dA Staff Appreciation Week - Emote dA HQ Project:iconstaffappreciation:

As part deviantART Staff Appreciation Week, `SanguineEpitaph and #StaffAppreciation team have come up with a fun project for deviants.
Ever wonder what it's like at deviantART Headquarters? So do we! And since most of us will never know, we've decided to let our imaginations run wild and create what we think HQ would be like...if it were run by emoticons!
This project is open for anyone who can create an emote or some sort of pixel art. The project challenges you to make piece representing a part of dA HQ. You can create something specific to a real-life member, such as an emoticon of $Moonbeam13, or something abstract like a general emote member of the Help Desk. We're also looking for pixel furniture (think desks, chairs, sofas), art for the walls, and other fun stuff you might imagine in the HQ offices. The #StaffAppreciation team has started things out, adding some rooms and props. It's up to you to help us complete the pic

You Spotlight the Under Appreciated - Volume 1A while ago, I ran a poll where I asked my watchers and visitors to show me artists they loved, but who they felt were under-appreciated. There were so many suggested artists, I couldn't fit them in one article! I have to admit, it was amazing visiting the galleries of these little-known and somewhat-known deviants. The artist who are featured were suggested by a poll commenter, while the specific piece chosen was selected by me. I have also included some of my own personal "under-appreciated artists" at the end.
This is a 1 of a multi-part series. Part 2 will be featured early next week.

I am your host, `stuck-in-suburbia and I want to thank everyone for letting me host the third annual Emote Awards! You know what they say, the third time's the charm.

Today, we celebrate those among us who have really excelled this year. However, I have a few guidelines for the acceptance speeches;

Don't thank your parents. They really don't want to know what you get up to online, or be associated with it.

Don't get on your soapbox, or talk at all about politics. If I wanted a nap, I would actually go to class.

In general, what do you like most about the emoticon community?

I like that the emote community is so tight-knit

Everyone knows everyone, and newcomers aren't snubbed but instead are helped to become better

One of the most prominent emoticon groups on dA is #Emotication. It is considered *the* resource for those wanted to start creating emoticons or expand their skills. #Emotizine sat down with founder, `Synfull, for a Q&A about the group. This is an excerpt. The full interview can be found here.

Tell us a little bit about #Emotication What is the purpose or goal behind the group?

#Emotication is a resource and tutorial group for the emote community. It aims to host a wide range of links to information about anything someone might need to know about emotes – programs to use, how to animate, what contests exist etc. It’s basically a one stop hub of knowledge for new emoticonists or just people interested in the emote community.

About how many resources does the group feature?

Wow, that’s a tough one. I used to keep a running total but it’s been a while since I did major work on the group I’ve lost track. A quick count of the page suggests approx 280 tutorials, 110 base packs and 380 news article links.

What is your favorite part/section of #Emotication.

Hmm, I think it would have to be the news article list. Having written a range of news articles myself and being a fan of other news series I find it a really useful resource to be able to look back through and find a link to an article written up to 3 years ago. Equally it’s a great way for emoticonists that have since left to continue to pass on their knowledge to current generations.
