Poll Features
It is widely known that many famous artists, composer, and authors have had the frustration of having a work they felt was sub-par gain huge popularity while pieces they worked harder on and adore sat un-noticed. This is the same for everyday deviants. I recently ran a poll asking for deviants to share with me their thoughts on this and share their own art. Relativity Contest - Great Prizes!

`Ravenswd and I are proud to announce our 2nd annual Relativity contest!
The theme this year (overwhelmingly selected by our Watchers) is:
Your Original Character (OC) as a Hero or Villain in the Relativity Universe
Since this is a Relativity contest, simply drawing a picture of your OC as a superhero will not count. You must incorporate something from Relativity into the piece. Either another character from the universe or something that is a direct and obvious reference to the world.
ANY of the Relativity characters can be used. That includes the characters in or out of costume. Supporting characters or villains may also be used.

Literary Compass - Vol. 3Welcome
If one is looking for Literature, you don't need to go far on deviantART. There is a large community of writers and a plethora of work to peruse. Featuring genres such as fantasy, mystery, horror, and romance, one would be hard-pressed to find an area not covered. However, due to the nature of the site, shorter works tend to get more focus. It's easier to quickly read a poem or a short story, and thus many of the feature articles on dA showcase those works. However, there are many novelists and serial writers among the mix, oftentimes fighting an uphill battle to have their works seen and appreciated.
With that in mind, I have started an article to spotlight some of those artists and their literary-worlds. The works covered in this feature will exclusively be long-form fiction such as novels, trilogies, etc., or fiction serials.

Spotlight Interview

_{In this series, I hope to introduce the community to some artists who have been around dA for a while, but are still relativity unknown. The interviews are meant to be short and sweet. I encourage you to check out the artist's full gallery and add them to your devWatch.}

Could you introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself and your dA life?

Hello! My name is Sarah Gnewikow. On DA I go by the name of Gnewi.

I joined DA a little more than a year and a half ago. I have met so many wonderful, encouraging people on DA! I contribute the reason I have not yet given up, to the inspiration and encouragement I find here! Along with art, and my job as a geriatric nurse, I enjoy reading, writing, playing piano, crocheting and taking care of my three beautiful children. I am happily married to an amazing man and will be celebrating our 12th anniversary this month. At the age of 31, I am probably one of the “old” people on here.

What would you say your main artform is? Secondary?

Some may be surprised to find that I consider my main form to be writing. Ever since I could read I have wanted to write! It will forever be my biggest dream! My secondary form would be digital art. I love creating!

When did you start pursuing your art? What prompted you to?

My pursuit of writing has been ongoing since childhood. I have notebooks filled with my little girlish writing. Lol! My prompting I would say came from some in-born need. Lol!

My pursuit of drawing came as a result of my writing. I wanted to be able to draw the characters I saw in my head as I wrote. So, with my sister's encouragement (she is also an artist here on DA) I made my 2011 New Year's resolution: learn to draw. I think it may be the one and only resolution I have kept. Lol! Prior to this, even though I enjoyed the work of other artists, I really had no desire to pursue it myself. Now, I wish I had started earlier! I love to draw!

What is your favorite piece in your gallery at the moment?

I really have no idea... I think I will choose this one...simply because I'm a hopeless romantic. XD

In general, what is your favorite thing to create (i.e. fan-art, poetry, etc) ?

I love to write fantasy and historical fiction. As far as drawing goes... OCs! Both mine and other people's!

Just for fun question: What's your favorite movie and why?

Princess Bride!

I have yet to get tired of watching it. Romance, fantasy, comedy... can you make a better combination?!

Time to spread the love. Who are 3 artists you feel could use more love? If you can, tell us why?

This is a difficult question. I have so many more than three! And so many people who have inspired me and encouraged me! They all deserve more love!

I did manage to narrow it down to these three:

for my first. Not only is she my sister, she is an amazing artist who definitely could use more love on DA!

2nd would be ~Felixuta, a very sweet traditional artist whom I have gotten to know a little on here!

And, last but definitely not least, my friend, who is an incredible artist and person!
