A new series that will feature art selected by me. There will be a wide range of themes and genres covered. In addition, there will be periodic interviews and artist spotlights. This article will be also be the home of my upcoming "Awesome dA Artist" feature, which is a re-birth/re-imagining of my "Awesome Emoticonist" award.
If you like this article, please add it to your favorites to help spread the love for the art and artists within.
On my profile page, I feature a new deviation every day (or two or three). The piece is usually something that caught my eye. Could be an amazing digital painting, a fun stamp, a quick photograph that made me smile, perhaps a piece for a weekly theme, whatever. However, it moved me enough to share it with my visitors. Below is a list of the artists which I featured during February 2012. I am showcasing different pieces from their gallery in the hope of showing them a bit more love. If you would like to see the original piece I featured of each of these artists, please visit this folder.
You don't know why you are fighting
Living cluelessly, as you try to understand
Fallen, you now feel so worn and beaten
As you let all your dreams fly away
And now you're so afraid
To ever try again
And you hide behind your own mistakes
And you're feeling so unsure
Almost dead, so insecure
No more hope inside
Find your own way, find something new to love
Rise above the clouds, time for rebirth
Burn the past, forget the pain and move on
No sorrow, no regrets, erase what's gone
I know how it hurts to give up on your dreams
I know you had plans, you'd waited
In this series, I hope to introduce the community to some artists who have been around dA for a while, but are still relativity unknown. The interviews are meant to be short and sweet. I encourage you to check out the artist's full gallery and add them to your devWatch.
This issue, we talk to digital artist and cosplayer, *Eeren
Could you introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself and your dA life?
Hi!! My name is Enrica, but all my friends call me Eren, and I'm a 23 years-old Italian girl! I'll be soon getting my university degree in Japanese culture and language and drawing is one of my biggest passions! I've been here on dA for around 6 years now and I've been honored with a Daily Deviation in 2009 for this picture [link] . I've been working on several projects in this amazing community, such as the 3 clubs I mod: #WinterIsComing-fans (dedicated to the Game of Thrones tv series and A Song of Ice and Fire's books in general), #Skydoll-Factory (fan club for all the fans of the comic Skydoll by Barbucci&Canepa) and #claymore-FC (for all the lovers of the amazing manga Claymore by Norihiro Yagi)!
I also have other 2 personal accounts: ~theredviper where I submit my photos, stock pics and cosplay stuff, and ~Self-eSteam, dedicated to my artisan crafts (gothic and steampunk accessories most of all )! You can support this last project on my Facebook page or visit my Etsy Shop here.
What would you say your main artform is? Secondary?
My main artform surely is Digital Painting. I really love it. Plus I rarely have the possibility to draw outside my room, so I mostly do it on my computer! As far as the secondary one is concerned... maybe I'd go with the artisan craft, as you have seen in the first question, or with traditional art (mainly linearts or copic colored pictures)! ^^ But I must admit I really love my Intuos4!
When did you start pursuing your art? What prompted you to?
Since I was a child I've always loved drawing. My mom (you can see her account at ~mabi03) paints as a hobby, and my dad paints and sculptures miniature soldiers, so I grew up in an environment full of art! Around junior high I started dedicating my-self more and more to my passion and soon after I got my first wacom tablet. Since then, none could stop me!
What is your favorite piece in your gallery at the moment?
Wow, this is a hard question. I am surely proud of the work that got me the DD, but years have passed and that pic starts getting quite old! As I'm particularly fond of portraits, I really like this one since drawing it I learnt sooo much about digital painting and I feel it improved my skills a lot! The other one I love is this picture of my OC Tsumetai. Yep, I think I'd go for these two ^O^
In general, what is your favorite thing to create (i.e. fan-art, poetry, etc) ?
I like drawing my OCs and people in general most of all, also 'cause I think is that I'm better at! I'm definitely gonna do some practice on how to draw backgrounds soon, since I scarcely draw them and I know this is a big mistake! I also like drawing fan-arts and other people's OCs!!!
Just for fun question: What is your favorite fandom?
Well, I obviously love A Song of Ice and Fire (I've cosplayed both Ygritte and Melisandre, before it was cool ), and GoT, but, aside from the subjects of the fan clubs I told you about before, I am a great lover of The Lord of The Rings (I grew up reading Tolkien) and of the manga/anime universe. I also watch a lot of movies, tv series and I LOVE music, it inspires me a lot!
Time to spread the love. Who are 3 artists you feel could use more love?
As far as those that are inspiring me a lot here on dA, I'd go for ~Sakimi-chan, *Mezamero and `Artgerm! As far as the ones I love that should get MORE attention, I'd say: ~sidwill-cg (I've just discovered this amazing artist and fell in love with his gallery! IT IS AWESOOOOME), ~Marimari999 (she's really talented!) and the lovely ~AnimaProject (she's an italian girl I've met some days ago here on dA and I'm sure she'll gift us with lots of amazing works in the future!!) I know I've already written 3 names of people that should get more attention, but... could I include a 4th one featuring also !DevilDein?
*Eeren's picks from the above artists' galleries:
So... here we are! And of course lots of love go to the great `mirz-alt for giving me this opportunity! And to you all for having spent your time reading these words!! THANKS!
Some of my picks from *Eeren's gallery:
With tomorrow being Father's Day in the U.S., I thought it only appropriate to have a dad-centric feature this issue.
This section will be used to promote special events and such around dA that are close to my heart, as well as requested pimpage.
#eCSSited is hosting a design & design-and-code a journal contest. The twist is that white should be the predominant color. For more information, check out this page.
~casanonva130 has recently re-opened commissions. His work is wonderful and his prices very reasonable. To get all the details, see this page.
